SHAREPOINT MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
This program is unique in the SharePoint industry and is
designed to turn an employee with no SharePoint experience into a SharePoint
superstar quite capable of managing a large site collection / project /
platform. It is a long term program with very specific pre-requisites, namely
:
- This is
a long term engagement.
- This course is designed to
up-skill an identified internal resource to become the SharePoint Champion for
the division or company. The objective is a train-the-trainer type
scenario to enable the candidate to give ongoing training, demos, support and
maintain the SharePoint environments and users allocated to
them.
- Depending on the size of the organization / department,
you ideally need one Champion per large division, and minimum one per
company.
- The candidate needs to have a thorough understanding of
their business – the documentation to be managed, the people that need to access
and manage it, how the organization communicates, how politics is
handled.
- Required qualities : confidence, ability to see the big
picture, very organised, communicates very well and clearly, attention to
detail, high standards in documentation, able to work under pressure, calm in
volatile situations, learns quickly, has a passion for Microsoft products,
honest, trustworthy, able to multi-task, has initiative, creative, willingness
to take ownership, flexible and open to change, willingness to share their
knowledge and information, good listener, able to speak to and for others as
well give presentations to all levels, good at research, not afraid to
contribute to the online community, self-starter, be willing to learn something
new every day, positive attitude, friendly, professional and
energetic.
- No knowledge of SharePoint is required. Technology can be
taught, the traits above cannot.
- It is
crucial that the candidate’s time be allocated 100% to the SharePoint
project. This is a one-on-one engagement with
intense knowledge transfer for extended periods of time. Managing
SharePoint is a fulltime job. The candidate will also require time
to apply the knowledge they have learnt before being able to confidently
exercise their skills to a wider audience. It is also very
important for the delegate to have a laptop with 3G access due to the mobile
nature of the post.
- The outline is in no particular order as it will be
dependent on the time the candidate can dedicate to the program.
Modules will be scheduled once the engagement has been finalized and time
schedules determined.
- Feedback will be supplied after day 1 as to whether or
not the identified candidate will be suitable for this program; it would be
preferable to have a screening process in place
beforehand.
- Note: Proper
mentorship can take up to a year! Business decision makers
will need to make a commitment to the skilling of the identified candidate in
terms of time and money.
