How to Get the Most from Your Training

Simply attending a training course is no silver bullet; long term value takes team work.
Your Responsibility

  • Put your phone on silent, (we know parents can’t put phones off).
  • Don’t check your email.
  • Be on time.
  • Pay attention and be present.
  • Have basic PC literacy skills under the belt – you can create, save and retrieve Word, PowerPoint and Excel documents, you can send email, you can access the internet.
  • Be ready to attend future courses by doing the homework after each one.
  • Put what you have learnt into practice as soon as you can.
  • Share what you have learnt with your stakeholders.
  • Have an open mind.
  • Be prepared to have fun.
Your Company's Responsibility

  • Don’t expect staff attending training to be on standby.
  • Understand that they will be offsite all day.
  • Don’t expect staff to come back to work after training – there is a lot to absorb.
  • Give them a proper business goal for attending the training – what must they build or maintain when they come back?
  • Give staff the time to assimilate and apply the knowledge they have learned.
  • Don’t expect staff to be SharePoint experts after 4 days of training, it takes months and years of real world experience.
  • Empower staff by providing the environment to grow – provide a training site where they can apply their skills in a safe environment until they’re confident enough to work on their live sites.
